Overview

All are welcome at the annual Monster Mile race in celebration of Canada's greatest downhill racer, Steve Smith, right here on his home soil of Vancouver Island. Race, volunteer, or come to spectate and watch all the action throughout the weekend. Join us starting Thursday throughout the VI Bike Festival leading into the annual DH race on Sunday, August 25th, 2024. Live music, whip-off, vendor market, and more free community fun! The Bike Park trails and more mountain activities are open all weekend throughout the events. Thursday, August 22
  • The Forbidden Thursday Night Race Series, the fourth event in the 5-week series! Race starts at 6 pm, register in person $10 fee includes a beverage 
  • Monster Mile trail open to the public on Thursday/Friday with Bike Park access! Load Bikes on Eagle Chair 11 am 
Friday, August 23
  • 11am-5pm Toyota Tacoma Shuttles to the Bike Park - located from the Whiskey Jack Chairlift outside Alpine Lodge)
  • Athlete registration & plate pick-up 4-6 pm (Whiskey Jack conference room upstairs Alpine Lodge)
  • Athlete track walk 5-6:30 pm (Monster Mile closes to the public 5 pm)
  • Family Fiver Friday 5:30-7:30 pm - bike park and scenic chair tickets are just $5 for kids, $10 for youth/senior and $15 for adults
  • Bike Show & Shine Patio Social 5-8 pm register bikes by 5:30 pm 
Saturday, August 24
  • 9am-1pm Athlete final registration & plate pick-up
  • 10 am-6 pm Vendor Market with activations from Forbidden Bikes, DHaRCO, Plateau Jump House & more!
  • 10am-5 pm DH Race Practice & Seeding Runs
  • 12 pm-6 pm Toyota Tacoma Bike Park Shuttle Rides from the Alpine Lodge
  • 1-3 pm Music in the Mountains featuring Octiv6 & Funkyard time changed
  • 5-6 pm Athlete Meeting & seeding runs announced in the finish corral
  • 6-8 pm The Whip Off: invite only - presented by Forbidden Bikes with music from Alpine Ambiance DJ (5-minute walk for spectators to event site)
Sunday, August 25
  • 9 am - 5 pm Steve Smith Memorial DH - official Race Day!
    • 10 am - 12 pm Racer Practice Runs
    • 12:30 pm Official Race Start
  • 10 am - 4 pm Vendor Market & Activations! 
  • 10 am - 2:30 pm Toyota Tacoma Bike Park Shuttles from Alpine Lodge Base
  • Race Podium Awards approx. 4 pm in the finish corral
  • Mountain activities are fully open all weekend all around the resort!

Spectators

All are welcome to visit the mountain and watch or join in to be part of the action over this exciting weekend! VI Bike Festival invites the enthusiasts, the casual cyclists, the curious and the energetic to partake in activities and events all throughout the weekend. The Bike Park, Zipline Tours, Sightseeing and more attractions are open and ongoing throughout race festivities. Music in the Mountains takes to the stage on Saturday afternoon from 3 – 5 pm, featuring Oktiv6 and Funkyard, followed by the Whip Off presented by Forbidden Bikes featuring tunes from local DJ and staff member Alpine Ambiance. Sunday is the main event, the annual Stevie Smith Memorial DH Race, and spectators are encouraged to cheer on racers tackling the gnarly Monster Mile trail.

Weekend Special Events Lineup

Thursday Night Race Series
Join Mount Washington every Thursday in August for this all-level fun race in the Bike Park on a new course weekly! Registration takes place in person at the Bike Shop in Outdoor Elements from 2 pm to 5:15 pm; racing starts at 6:00 pm sharp! Results will be posted online afterwards, and prizes will be awarded at the end of the race, but this fun community race is not about the results! Wrap up the evening by enjoying an apres beverage together out on the patio. Those under 19 MUST either print a waiver from our website and have signed by a guardian, or have a guardian present to register at the event. The $10 Race Entry Fee includes an apres beverage, but does not include your lift ticket access or bike rentals.
Patio Social Show & Shine

FRIDAY NIGHT SHOW & SHINE SOCIAL 5 - 8 PM

Bring your old and unique or new and shiny 2-wheel prized possessions, and join us on the Eagle View Patio for a community social and Show & Shine. Bikes will be lined up for voting on favourites from the community. Enter your bike into the contest by 5:30 pm for a chance to win a summer 2025 Bike Park Season Pass. Presented by Bubby's Bike Shop in Coombs

- 4:30-5:30 pm Bike entry begins
- 5:30 pm Bikes must be entered, and voting begins
- 6:30 pm Voting closes
- 7 pm Winners announced! The bike with the most votes will win next summer's Bike Park Pass!

Trail Ride Experience Shuttles & Enter to WIN!

Bike Park Experience Shuttles: Take a test drive with the Toyota Pacific team in their latest Tacoma and Tundra machines, out on the rugged slopes of Mount Washington! Shuttles will transport riders and their bikes from the Alpine Lodge base (pick-up near Slopeside Accommodations) to be transported to the mid-mountain junction in the Bike Park. View the event map for more details! Riders under 19 must have a parent or guardian present to participate. 

Shuttle Schedule: Friday, 11 am to 5 pm / Saturday, 12 pm to 6 pm / Sunday, 10 am to 2:30 pm

Whip Off presented by Forbidden Bikes

WHIP OFF SATURDAY, 6 - 8 PM:

Whip Off athletes are invited by Forbidden Bikes - visit their booth in the finish corral to chat! Spectator event with live music from DJ Alpine Ambiance! The event site is a 5-minute walk from the Eagle Chairlift, please follow signs and remain on the walking path. (unfortunately there will be no beer garden)

Whip Off Format: 
6-6:30pm: practice
6:30-7:15(ish)pm: Jam session
7:15-7:30pm: 2 run for finalists
7:30pm: podium awards 
8pm: event site closed
