Winter Episode #5
This week on The MEMO - Your Guide to Island Mountain Adventures:
  • Mother Nature has been up to her old tricks, sure keeping us on our toes... but you shouldn't be! Respect all mountain closures and never duck ropes or bypass closed signs. After the 85cm dump of snow so far in January, we're in for a little break of warmer temperatures and a nice stretch of sunshine in the forecast. Boomerang remains closed and the team will continue to assess and open backside terrain once safe.
  • Avalanche Awareness Day is coming up this Saturday! Join our team of professionals, along with Comox Valley SARS and Avalanche Canada, for a day of learning about mountain safety, with demonstrations, and prizes to be won from Helly Hansen.
  • Reserve a First Tracks Private Lesson to be the first on the slopes! Enjoy sunrise views, fresh tracks, early chairlift loading and guidance from our expert Instructors.
  • Visiting on a day ticket? Skip the ticket windows. Remember to plan ahead and purchase before arrival, reloading an RFID card if you already have one.
  • Be kind, stay safe, adventure smart, and remember that we're all just here to have fun.
Watch the video for more, and stay updated on the Mount Washington website and mobile app. Thanks for tuning in! We'll see you next Wednesday for another update.

With Great Snowfall, Comes Great Responsibility

Jan. 5

No MEMO this week, stay updated:
The 2022 new year arrived offering 92 cm of fresh snow over the last 7 days. With that great snowfall, comes great responsibility for our community to collectively be prepared for the adventure. There is another winter storm warning in effect for parts of Vancouver Island this evening, and your preparedness when travelling up the Strathcona Parkway to our location at Mt. Washington is never to be taken lightly. All visitors must be equipped to handle whatever the winter weather blows our way - it is essential for everyone's safety and enjoyment. A few things to keep in mind and chat to your neighbours about:

  • Resort status updates such as lift status, terrain, and any delays are shared as often as possible via the Mount Washington Mobile App, as well as directly through Twitter on the hashtag #MyMWOps. You can also join the conversation and help share updates here.
  • The steep road to Mt. Washington is not managed by the resort, and is rather provincially maintained through MainRoads North Island. All alerts and updates, including the chain-up light indicators are directed from Drive BC: check here for road status
  • We can only know so much about what happens outside the resort, and we don't have eyes out on the road. If you see an incident driving up, it should be reported (when safe to do so) through MainRoads 24HR Public Info Hotline at 1-877-215-7122.
  • Winter tires on an appropriate vehicle are essential for travel on Strathcona Parkway, and tire chains should be carried and used when needed. Use caution and have patience with your fellow drivers, being courteous of MainRoads snow removal vehicles so they can do their jobs - abiding by the rules such as not parking in the pull out zones.
  • Check the forecast and know what to expect; stay alert to changing conditions and plan ahead for emergencies. Carrying backup supplies and tools such as a shovel are also great ideas for your journey whenever driving in winter weather.
  • The mountain shuttle bus schedule has experienced interruptions due to the road conditions, as well as a lack of bus drivers and delayed mechanical repairs on units in our bus fleet. We apologize for the inconvenience to our staff and bus pass holders who rely on this service. Normal bus operations have resumed and we're hopeful to continue.
  • Mountain dining services are limited as our team continues to hire and train new food and beverage staff. Stay updated on our website for hours of operation post holiday at Ted's Bar Grill, Eagle View Bistro, and the Alpine Cafeteria. We look forward to welcoming you and appreciate your patience. Weekend après entertainment continues.
  • The ongoing risk of covid-19 is still prevalent and your cooperation is appreciated in following all BC Provincial Health Orders. A face mask must be worn over your mouth and nose when entering any building, don't make our staff ask you nicely.
  • Snow hazards such as tree wells will be present. Always adventure with a buddy and adventure smart. Refer to our safety and risk awareness page for more information. It is everyone's responsibility to be safety conscious.
Thank you for doing your part to help keep everyone safe and having a great time in the mountains. It takes a community effort, and our team of staff and volunteers appreciates your cooperation and consideration while visiting. No new episode of The MEMO this week, but watch this short video of some powder play from the past few days, and have fun out there!

If your Season Pass was not reloaded or mailed, please come inside to the Season Pass Office to complete the process.

HEALTH & SAFETY PROTOCOLS:
In an effort to manage the ongoing Covid-19 risk for the 2021-22 winter season, we are closely following all guidelines set forth by BC Provincial Health and encourage guests to look at our website for any updated protocols prior to visiting. These guidelines enforce wearing a face mask while indoors unless seated at a dining establishment, and to provide government issued Proof of Vaccination (PoV) to dine inside at Ted’s Bar & Grill and Eagle View Bistro. Lifts will operate at full capacity, and masks are not required outdoors per BC Provincial Health guidelines for safe outdoor recreation.

DINING:
Ted's Bar & Grill and Eagle View Bistro are available for dine-in service with Proof of Vaccination. Grab and go service is also available at Eagle View Bistro, utilizing online ordering through the Mount Washington mobile app. The Alpine Cafeteria will open this weekend for self serve options, but please stay tuned for more specific information on what to expect around the resort for food and drink as well as general resort hours of operation.

LESSONS, RENTALS, TUNING:
Guests are encouraged to pre-book all lessons, programs and equipment rentals, online or over the phone. Please plan ahead to avoid missing out! When arriving for your lesson, meet outside to check-in with your instructor if you are not picking up rentals inside at the Experience Centre. The Demo Centre will also be open, offering your gear tuning, boot fitting and demo gear testing needs. Reserve online or stop in.

NORDIC & RAVEN LODGE:
Raven Retail and Raven Café will both operate from the same counter, offering grab and go self-serve dining options. Our team has been scoping out the trails and we hope to have a variety of both classic and skate Nordic trails open, as well as several snowshoe trails for exploration. Discounted opening weekend Trail Passes will be available in person at Raven Lodge. Stay updated on the Nordic Report on our website and mobile app come Friday morning for the list of open trails.
