Experience the mountain after dark during the Sturgeon Full Moon at Mount Washington.

On August 28, the Eagle Chairlift will spin into the evening for a special full moon experience in the alpine. Start the night with sunset refreshments on the patio before riding to the top of the mountain to take in nighttime views from the Lookout Deck beneath the glow of the full moon.

Known as the Sturgeon Moon, August’s full moon has also been referred to as the Mountain Shadows Moon by the Tlingit people of the Pacific Northwest, marking the seasonal shift as mountain light begins to change toward fall.

Expect lantern-lit pathways, cool alpine air, and a slower-paced evening on the mountain. Guests are encouraged to bring headlamps or personal light sources for exploring after sunset.

Whether you’re coming for the moonrise, the scenery, or simply an excuse to spend a summer night in the mountains, this is one of the most unique evenings of the season at Mount Washington.
