This is the last weekend of the season to get your turns in at Mount Washington Alpine Resort. The 2012/13 winter season ends this Sunday, April 14th with the infamous Slush Cup!
“It's been a great season for the mountain,” explains resort spokesperson Brent Curtain. “When you compare the weather this season to the last few seasons, almost half of our days this winter were sunny. It's been unbelievable!”
And while that meant less powder days for the hardcore skiers and boarders, fair-weather skiers took to the slopes in force.
Mount Washington received over 70 days of sunshine this season. That almost doubled the number of sunny days in the 2011/12 season. That winter could only muster the sunshine 38 times between November and April.
The trend for more sunshine, mixed with occasional flurries, continues over the next few days. This will bring smiles to the faces of those participating in the popular events lined up for closing weekend.
The Thrifty Foods Dummy Downhill begins at 3:30pm in front of the Alpine Lodge on Saturday, April 13 and the Crush Slush Cup will be held between the Alpine Lodge and Mtn Tek at 3:30pm on Sunday, April 14. Don't forget your camera!
Other great events taking place during the final weekend are the Vancouver Island Loppet on Saturday, April 13 and the Season passholder BBQ's. The Alpine passholder BBQ will be held from 11:30am to 1:30pm at the Alpine Lodge on April 13. The Nordic passholder BBQ will be cooking for the cross-country crowd between 11:30am and 1:30pm at the Raven Lodge on April 14. Don't forget to bring your pass to get in!
