The first time was nice. The second time was even nicer. The third time was impressive. The fourth time is unprecedented!
Mount Washington Alpine Resort will open earlier than expected for the fourth season in a row. The new opening day is Friday, November 30th with lifts spinning at 9am sharp!
“The weather systems that came in over the weekend were unbelievable,” explains resort spokesperson Brent Curtain. “We received over 80cms of snow in just over two days. It's beginning to look very reminiscent of the last three seasons already.”
Mount Washington has been on a roll in the snow department. Three of the mountain's four deepest seasons have all occurred in the last three winters. And it looks like winter 12/13 is already off to a strong start.
“The forecast for the rest of this week is leaning towards more snowfall with upwards of 20-40cms of new snow on Thursday,” Curtain adds.
At 9:00am on Tuesday morning, the mountain was already in the grips of another heavy snowstorm.
The mountain plans on announcing lifts and terrain openings closer to November 30 so stay tuned and check out the mountain's snow report page on mountwashington.ca for the latest information.
If you're looking for new programs on the mountain this winter, don't overlook the new Rookie Year. The program has been designed specifically for children who have never been on skis or a snowboard before. Unique to Mount Washington, the new Rookie Year will become an industry standard for getting kids on snow.
The simplicity of Rookie Year speaks for itself- rookie skiers and boarders receive a season pass (read- unlimited time on snow), unlimited ski or snowboard rentals and unlimited afternoon group lessons in Mountain Kids- all season long. The rookie receives this all-inclusive season long offer for an unbelievably low price: Tots (4-5) $199 and Child (6-12) $399.
The goal of this exciting new program is to encourage the younger generation to get outdoors and discover the world of snow.
Mount Washington's rental department also brings exciting new options for guests this season. If you rent your skis or snowboard online, not only do you get a discount, you also get a priority express lineup voucher to reduce your time in the lodge. This translates into more time on snow!
High performance rental skis and snowboards will be available for the first time at Mount Washington's Learning Centre. The skis- Rossignol Experience 83's- are an incredibly versatile all-mountain ski for expert to advanced skiers. Burton Snowboards will be available to advance and expert riders. They will be available this winter for a small upgrade fee of only $15 from standard rental equipment.
