Vancouver Island's Mount Washington Alpine Resort is Canada's snow magnet. The epic snowfall averages over 14 metres per season- enough snow to bury a five-story building! And the views from the peak are some of the finest anywhere- with dramatic Strathcona Provincial Park and the Pacific Ocean included in the panorama. The mountain's terrain is varied- beginners have Easy Acres and their choice of four new Magic Carpet lifts, intermediates can schuss down their pick of the many meticulously groomed cruising runs and experts have the Outback- where steep chutes and tree runs wait to challenge! In addition, the resort is an acclaimed cross-country and snowshoeing destination. A charming Alpine Village with 4500 beds tops off your Pacific Island experience!
A snow-filled mountain, located on an island, in the Pacific Ocean. It almost sounds too good doesn't it? Unbelievably, it's true. Mount Washington Alpine Resort on Vancouver Island has been recognized in the snow industry as the 'deep snow capital of Canada' for well over the last decade.
The Resort is bordered by Strathcona Provincial Park, BC's oldest provincial park, to the west and the deep blue waters of Georgia Strait to the east. Views of the Pacific Ocean from the top of the mountain are second to none and considered by many to be one of the best views in Canada.
This seaside location, with the help of some classic orographic precipitation, delivers the resort's epic all-natural snowfall. How epic? The mountain's five year snowfall average is currently sitting at 14 metres (46 feet).
Mount Washington's terrain is ideal for skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels. Five alpine lifts and four Magic Carpets serve over 1700 acres of ski and snowboard terrain. Beginners can learn on Easy Acres, one of the easiest places to learn to ski and snowboard in North America and travel up the mountain in style on one of its four new Magic Carpets. Intermediates can schuss down one of the many meticulously groomed cruising runs or give the trees a try in the forgiving Goodtime Glades. Experts can dive into the Outback and challenge themselves on one of the steep chutes, pillow lines, or tree runs through stands of old-growth Yellow Cedar and Mountain Hemlock.
Beyond the thrills of alpine, Mount Washington's top-rated Nordic Centre is perched on the edge of Strathcona Provincial Park and offers unparalleled views on 55kms (30 miles) of machine groomed cross-country trails. The trail network meanders and weaves through the resort and scenic parklands. 22kms (13.5 miles) of snowshoeing trails are ready to greet those looking for the best way to walk in the woods!
Mount Washington offers a fine selection of services including five restaurants, retail shops, a full service Snow School including daycare, and a charming Alpine Village with ski-in/ski-out accommodation for over 4500 people.
