  • First time skier
  • Never skied before
  • Can not turn
  • Not yet able to do a snow plow on a gentle slope

Terrain: Easy Acres or Green Terrain
Goal: Build confidence & positive first time experience

Level 1

Ability Check for Programs at Mount Washington Level One Our programs are dynamic and fun, the way skiing and riding is supposed to be. Please use as a guide only.

  • Can do snowplow turns in control on gentle slopes
  • Prefer to ski at a slow pace/ cautious skier
  • Skiing on some or all of the carpets
  • Green runs remain a challenge

Terrain: Easy Acres or Green Terrain
Goal: Link controlled turns and rides the magic carpets

Level 2

Ability Check for Programs at Mount Washington Level Two, Our programs are dynamic and fun, the way skiing and riding is supposed to be. Please use as a guide only.

  • Ability to link strong snowplow turns or wide stance parallel
  • Starting to parallel turn on green runs, yet cautions on easy blue runs
  • Matching skis at end of turns on blue runs, 50/50
  • Familiar with riding the Hawk chair lift

Terrain: Blue Runs on Hawk & Green Terrain on Easy Acres
Goal: Developing skills for parallel turns on beginner terrain

Level 3

Ability Check for Programs at Mount Washington Our programs are dynamic and fun, the way skiing and riding is supposed to be. Please use as a guide only.

  • Able to ski parallel turns with a pole plant
  • Can ski most blue runs, more advanced blues remain a challenge
  • Starting to exploring Blue moguls & varied terrain
  • Increasing speed and coordination of movements
  • You are starting to venture into the green terrain park

Terrain: Blue runs on Hawk & Whiskey Jack chair
Goal: Developing skills for confident skiing on intermediate terrain

Level 4

Ability Check for Programs at Mount Washington Our programs are dynamic and fun, the way skiing and riding is supposed to be. Please use as a guide only.

  • Able to ski strong parallel turns with a pole plant on all blue & easy black groomed runs
  • Starting to explore un-groomed black terrain but are still cautious
  • Skis at a moderate pace off piste
  • You are confident in your skills in the terrain park

Terrain: Blue & Black runs on Eagle, Whisky Jack and Sunrise Chairs
Goal: Developing skills for confident skiing on advanced terrain

Level 5

Ability Check for Programs at Mount Washington Our programs are dynamic and fun, the way skiing and riding is supposed to be. Please use as a guide only.

  • Skis parallel confidently on groomed Black runs
  • Can do short turns in black un-groomed terrain (bumps, powder)
  • Can ski at a faster pace on all black runs & conditions
  • Experimenting with different turn shapes in all terrain
  • You are refining your skills in the terrain park

Terrain: Black runs on Eagle, Boomerang and Sunrise Chairs & all mountain terrain
Goal: Developing skills for confident skiing on expert terrain

Snowboard Ability Levels

Discover Snowboarding - First Time Rider

Ability Check for Programs at Mount Washington First Time Rider (Discover Snowboarding) Our programs are dynamic and fun, the way skiing and riding is supposed to be. Please use as a guide only.

  • Never ever ridden before.

Terrain: Easy Acres or Green Terrain.
Goal: Speed control through side slipping on your toe or heel edge.

Level 1

Ability Check for Programs at Mount Washington Beginner Rider Our programs are dynamic and fun, the way skiing and riding is supposed to be. Please use as a guide only.

  • Has ridden once or twice before
  • Can side slip easily with direction across on the easiest of green runs. (ie. power pendulum)

Terrain: Easy Acres or Green Terrain.
Goal: To be able to link toe and heel edge turns

Level 2 - Novice Rider

Ability Check for Programs at Mount Washington Novice Rider Our programs are dynamic and fun, the way skiing and riding is supposed to be. Please use as a guide only.

  • Can confidently link turns on all green runs

Terrain: Ride all green and easy blue runs and introduce the beginner park
Goal: To be able to confidently ride on all blue runs while linking turns. Experiment with the beginner park.

Level 3 - Intermediate Rider

  • Can do fluid linked turns on blue runs at moderate speeds.
  • Consolidating skills

Terrain: All blue runs and/or small Terrain Park
Goal: To get more performance from the board while exploring more challenging terrain. To learn basic freestyle mechanics. Become comfortable in the beginner park.

Level 4 - Advanced Rider

  • Aggressive riding on all blue runs.
  • Consolidating and refining skills.
  • Likes to explore steeper and varied terrain.

Terrain: All blue runs and easy black runs
Goal: To ride switch on blue terrain. Venture into Advanced Park, moguls and challenging terrain

Level 5 – Advanced Rider

  • Riding Black runs and advanced park.
  • Refining and creating variation with skill.

Terrain: Black runs & advanced Terrain Park
Goal: To adapt to all terrain and experiment with speed, turn shape and new tricks. Become comfortable with advanced park
